KODANSHA|HERALBONY Project meets Tachikoma
THE GHOST IN THE SHELL’s Tachikoma Bathed in Extraordinary Colors: A Boundary-Pushing Creative Work Emerges

Exhibition at ‘KODANSHA HOUSE’ in New York Starting This October

HERALBONY will launch its first-ever collaboration project with the landmark sci-fi series THE GHOST IN THE SHELL in 2025.

The theme of this initiative is “Creativity Beyond Boundaries.” The iconic AI-powered tank “Tachikoma” from GHOST IN THE SHELL SAC_2045 will merge with artworks created by HERALBONY’s contracted artists. By bringing together the futuristic world of THE GHOST IN THE SHELL and the art that transforms “differences” into strength, this collaboration will create a new intersection of creativity.

Furthermore, starting in October, a special exhibition booth commemorating this collaboration will be featured at “KODANSHA HOUSE” in New York City. Exclusive art visuals—available nowhere else—will be unveiled to fans in Japan and around the world.

Tachikoma Bathed in Extraordinary Colors: an exclusive visual

By merging the Tachikoma, a symbolic presence in GHOST IN THE SHELL SAC_2045, with artworks created by HERALBONY’s contracted artists, this project weaves stories together with creators who transcend boundaries through the power of expression. It stands as an artistic initiative that contributes to the expansion of free and diverse values.

THE GHOST IN THE SHELL has long depicted a future society swaying at the boundary between humans and AI, between self and memory. HERALBONY, with its mission of “Beyond Labels,” has continually shared art that challenges established concepts. As these two creative forces intersect, they open the door to a future where diverse values coexist while radiating their unique brilliance.

In 2024, KODANSHA and HERALBONY unveiled ten-color symbols that reimagined KODANSHA’s iconic “K” through the artworks of ten HERALBONY contracted artists, expressing the concept of a “crossroads.” As part of this ongoing initiative to weave stories in which creativity transcends all boundaries, the first-ever collaboration with one of KODANSHA’s most iconic works, The Ghost in the Shell, has now been realized.

About THE GHOST IN THE SHELL

Based on the sci-fi manga by Masamune Shirow, The Ghost in the Shell is an anime and film series set in the latter half of the 21st century, when cyberization and full-body prosthetics have become widespread. The story follows members of Public Security Section 9 as they confront crimes and acts of terrorism in a highly networked society.

The 1995 feature film directed by Mamoru Oshii received worldwide acclaim and became a landmark of the cyberpunk genre, influencing many works including The Matrix.

This project was realized as part of an initiative to reimagine the symbol mark—originally created in 2024 under KODANSHA’s global purpose “Inspire Impossible Stories”—through the artworks of HERALBONY’s contracted artists.

For HERALBONY, this initiative represents not only “the story of KODANSHA, bringing creation into the world,” but also “the story of artists who transform disabilities into creativity through their art.” By sharing original works of art, we aim to envision a future that no one has yet imagined and to reshape society’s perception of disability in new ways.

Moving forward, we will continue to bring projects to society that make use of the ten symbol marks created with artworks by HERALBONY’s contracted artists.
